PW MISSIONS & CURRENT EVENTS

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE!

PW Volunteer Day

On  August 15th, PW has a volunteer day scheduled to help pack Senior Food Boxes at the Westmoreland County Food Bank and we need five people to help with that.  I hope that Covid19 won't be an issue by then and we can fulfill that commitment.

Seamstresses call for Fabric Masks

Seamstresses can also make cloth masks from small amounts of fabric and some elastic; less than a half-hour is needed to craft one.  One place that is gathering the masks is Newlonsburg Presby Church in Murrysville and there are no doubt other locations where they can be taken. Another local place it the Penn Township Municipal Building

Dresses and Pillowcases for Africa

If you'd like to do missions, but prefer to stay at home to do it,  we have just the thing for you...a couple of things, in fact.  Little  Dresses for Africa are easy to make and can be made with fabrics  that you may have left from past sewing projects,or from new or gently-used pillowcases.  Depending on  the size dress to be made, you'll need 5/8 - 1 1/8 yd of cotton  or cotton blend fabric, some bias binding, and whatever trims  you'd like to add.  One or two dresses can easily be made in an afternoon.

KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS

Or, knitters and crocheters can make 7" x 9" blocks of synthetic yarn that will be joined to make afghans or lap robes that will be given to homeless folks or to those in nursing homes.  Afghans can be for adults or children.

Christmas is Coming!

I know - it's just July, but it's time to start sewing Christmas stockings for Military Connections to fill with goodies and ship to our military personnel stationed overseas.  Ladies of the American Sewing Guild have prepared thousands of kits to be finished and we have 200 of them.  The kits - in bags of 10 - are available in the Adult Lounge and  the finished stockings are to be returned to church or me by July 28th.

School Supplies

As we've been doing for many years, we'll be collecting school supplies in July and August that will be donated to the Backpack Program and to needy kids in our general geographical area.  We are focusing on pens, pencils, small calculators, notebooks, crayons, and highlighters but anything the kids can use will be appreciated.  There will be collection bins near the office and at the Sunday School wing entrance to the sanctuary.
